Town centre revamp to be approved

Kettering Borough Council
Kettering's shopping areas are to get £12m of redevelopments

Plans for the focal point of the multi-million pound regeneration of Kettering town centre are due to be approved by councillors.

The borough council's executive committee is meeting later to approve the cost and design of a £2.2m revamp of the town's Market Place.

The new look is part of a £12m package of improvements to the shopping areas.

The council put forward the scheme as it gears up for the 13,200 new homes being planned for the town by 2021.

Mark Dearing, the council's portfolio holder for the economy, said: "It is anticipated that the Market Place will set the standard for future improvement works in the town centre but also help attract additional funding into this quieter part of the town."
